MA employer reminder

Those doing business in Massachusetts are reminded that new earned sick time regulations became effective on July 1, 2015. The regulations stipulate that all employees in the Commonwealth are entitled to earn up to, and use, 40 hours of sick time annually. The time is accrued at a rate of one hour for every 30 hours worked or can be provided in a lump sum at the beginning of each month or each year. While employers with an average of 11 or more employees must provide paid sick leave, those with 10 and under can offer it as an unpaid benefit. The regulations also impose notification and recordkeeping requirements.
